ABSTRACT
This article examines the changes in the educational environment caused by the introduction of a competence-based approach to the learning process, with an emphasis on primary school. The author emphasizes the need to adapt school curricula to modern requirements, as many of them were developed before the introduction of this approach. The main question of the article is whether and how a competency-based approach exists in the framework of elementary school mathematics lessons.
The importance of the article lies in its practical orientation: the author provides useful tips and recommendations for teachers, which can help improve the educational process and further develop the personality of students. These tips are considered as part of the broader context of teaching practice and experience, which highlights the importance of teachers' professional growth and their role in the learning process.
Thus, the article creates an incentive for further study and discussion of the application of the competence approach in other subject areas and at all levels of education, and also emphasizes the key role of teachers in the formation of skills and competencies in younger students.

The modern order of society for educational services is undergoing many changes. One of these changes is the requirement to implement a competence–based approach in the learning process - that is, teachers are required to teach children the knowledge, skills, and skills that a modern student can use in their future lives.
Naturally, this approach should be implemented already in elementary school. However, most of the school curricula used in modern elementary schools were created before the advent of the competence approach. [1]
In this regard, the relevant question is "Does a competence–based approach exist and is it being implemented in modern elementary schools?" - this question arose in our study of psychological, didactic and methodological literature. We decided to find the answer to this question at a specific level – the level of mathematics lessons.
"Competence is the knowledge, skills and abilities that a primary school student learns in elementary school and uses them in all areas of their future life."
In conclusion, we list the tips that guide us in the formation of key competencies in working on the quality of education:
1. The main thing is not the subject you teach, but the personality you form.
2. Spare no time or effort to foster activity. Today's active student is tomorrow's active member of society.
3. Help students to master the most productive methods of educational and cognitive activity, teach them to learn.
4. It is necessary to use the question “why?” to teach you to think causally: understanding cause-and-effect relationships is a prerequisite for developing learning.
5. Teach students to think and act independently.
6. Develop creative thinking through a comprehensive analysis of problems; solve cognitive tasks in several ways, and practice creative tasks more often.
7. It is necessary to show students the prospects of learning more often.
8. Use schemes and plans to ensure the assimilation of the knowledge system.
9. In the learning process, be sure to take into account the individual characteristics of each student, combine them into differentiated subgroups of students with the same level of knowledge.
10. Study and take into account the life experiences of students, their interests, and developmental characteristics.
11. Encourage students to research.
12. Teach in such a way that the student understands that knowledge is a vital necessity for him.
These useful tips are only a small part, only the tip of the iceberg of pedagogical wisdom, pedagogical skills, and the common pedagogical experience of many generations. Remembering them, following them, and being guided by them is the condition that can make it easier for a teacher to achieve the most important goal – the formation and development of a personality.
