THE IMPACT OF DEEPL ON THE MODERN TRANSLATION SOCIETY

ABSTRACT

Scholars spent years in order to create tool which can be really useful for translators.  However, after decades of work and billions of dollars, but still it took a lot of years in order to be useful for humans.  The reason is that machines do not understand the meaning behind words or sentences in the same way that humans do.

Notwithstanding machine translation in our days is showing its best version, and still we are facing and feeling some underreporting.  Machine translation is certainly not an easy task. Especially, when it comes to the translation of text documents and technical manuals, which are full of unfamiliar words and phrases. This is where machine translation (MT) comes for help. It saves translators from looking up every single unknown word. Hence one of these tools for translation which is on demand is - DeepL. This research paper is aimed to show its construction and provide an overall review of the program. There will be a review of its history, comparison with other programs, features, advantages, and the changes inserted in 2022.

DeepL translation tool is a new AI-based translation tool that can translate text from one language to another with near-perfect accuracy. DeepL understands the context of words in both languages and uses this knowledge to find the best match for each word, as well as create more natural sentences when translating from one language to another. DeepL is available online and as a app on Android and iOS devices. This program was invented by the Linguee group under the control of the Chief Technical Officer Jaroslaw Kutylowski in 2016. [3]. In first stages it provided translations between the languages like: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, and Dutch. While launching this program company announced that this translation tool suppressed its competitors, because according to blind test it showed really good results. In another words it was even better than Google Translate*, Amazon Translate and Microsoft Translator.  The testing was held by the journalists at French newspaper Le Monde. They compared it by translating traditional poetry, technical documents, newspaper articles, first-person writing, and a report on sport match. They compared them by translating on different languages on several translational programs. Hence they came to conclusion that DeepL is good on translating rare words, especially poetical words and first-person writing speeches. However Google translator* cannot be good on that things, we can say that exquisite work. Since 2017 DeepL was improved a lot and in our days it is still has great impact and place in translational sphere. [5]. Surely this program is not comfortable for daily usage as in Google translato*r, but it has a demand in companies and translating official documents and technical manuals.

Here are features and advantages of the DeepL translational program:

1. Ability to translate the whole text or documents, which helps a lot to comfortably read the articles or texts.
2. Guaranty that all the documents and texts will be saved after the trasnlation. [4]
3. Program provides free 5000 words. But if the users wants more he can buy it just for 30$ a month.
4. It has an mobile version, which helps to translate accurately and comfortable in any place and time.

It is containing work with neural network, because of that DeepL recongnizes the text and translates more accurately and naturally. [2]

In addition they are also trying to make some changes annually. Hence according to changes in 2022 they added new languages: Turkish and Indonesian languages. Later they also added Ukrainian language, because of the conditions with war. Surely it attracted million new users, which is again making them on demand.

They also launched mobile version for an Android. It allows them to translate on 29 languages on their mobile devices.

DeepL became an accessible in the Mexico and Singapore. So that majority could get an access to the translation without limit. Additionally company reached a successes in Japan. CEO of the company Jaroslaw Kutylowski received welcome at the Global Management Forum, where he announced that DeepL is working and helping Japanese companies daily. [1]

In conclusion this research paper showed the features, advantages and the demand of the DeepL in market place. It is the best solution for the companies that want to expand their global reach, save money and avoid local language barriers. The process of translation complicated with the right tools, it can be made much easier and more accurate. There is a chance that it will conquer the translation sphere.
